Notary

First notarized document is free, any signatures after that are $5 each and the limit is 5.

The library offers notary services with the following restrictions:

  • Notary is available by appointment only, in the Business Office. Please call 205.439.5555 for appointments or questions.
  • Walk-in service is possible, but notary staff availability is not guaranteed.
  • Patrons must provide valid, government-issued photo ID.
  • Patrons must provide their own witnesses if needed to notarize a document (library staff cannot act as witnesses).
  • The documents must be complete and ready for signature. If legal advice is needed, please consult an attorney. The notary public is prohibited from helping to prepare, complete, or understand legal documents.
  • The library does not notarize wills, divorce decrees, Trusts, I-9 forms, real estate closings, power of attorney, immigration documentation, health directives, nor documents about adoptions, custody, or family law or anything out-of-state.
  • Notaries reserve the right to refuse notarizing documents if there is a legitimate reason (examples include signer(s) not present, incomplete document, signer mentally incapacitated, invalid ID, etc.)
